Butterfly Waystation Tour

Location

2444 Siesta Drive
Sarasota, FL 34239
December 27, 2019 at 9am - 10:30am
Cost: By donation

Presented By Kathy Keh

Over the past 10 years I've worn many hats and studied many subjects. I recently studied and interned with the largest butterfly breeder in the country, and transformed my property into a colossal sized Monarch Waystation which has been formally recognized by Monarch Watch - a nonprofit organization dedicated to Monarch research, education and preservation - as an ideal habitat for Monarch butterflies. My passion is designing active meditation gardens filled with butterflies, plants and crystals and guaranteed to be a feast for your senses.

Description

This workshop begins with education about butterflies - their life cycles, ideal breeding and feeding habitats, as well as their challenges.

We'll then take a tour of the gardens. As we enjoy all sorts of butterflies fluttering around doing their thing I will point out the plants that they use for breeding and for food, as well as mamas laying eggs, and caterpillars growing and eating. We may even find chrysalis opening into butterflies!

Afterwards my guests will then go off on their own to explore, breathe in the fresh air, and observe all the miracles in Nature that abound around them. There's also a 6000 gallon Koi pond and Faerie & Gnome garden to soak in as well.

This is actually the "Active Meditation" portion of the workshop and great for kids and adults who have a hard time sitting still for long periods of time and who get restless. You really won't even notice that you're meditating, because everyone will be getting lost in Nature enjoying a beautiful feast for their senses.

Active meditations like these help us to reduce stress, take a break from our worries and re-charge our interest in and fascination with life and living. As we appreciate the little things in Nature many of us learn to appreciate the life we have and feel lighter and brighter about everything. For kids it's just a whole lot of fun and a great way of connecting with Nature.

My greatest wish is for everyone to have a unique, one of a kind educational experience and memories that last their lifetime. This tour is donation only and all the monies go back into caring for the garden and for offering innovative programs. These tours can also be booked for private groups so feel free to inquire.

Logistics: This course will be held outside so if the weather predicts heavy downpours or temperature below 70 degrees (when butterflies can't fly) - assume the class will be cancelled and you will get a full refund. Where weather is not an issue you can get a full refund if you cancel within 24 hours of your booking.

What I’ll provide: I will provide bottled water to quench thirsts - it can be quite hot during certain times of the year. Students will also receive an awesome resource guide on butterflies, their host plants and what they look like at different stages of life so that they can go home and start their own butterfly habitats.

What to bring: As weather dictates - bring sunblock, hats, comfortable clothing & shoes
